THE RAMBLER FRAME LOCK FOLDER

THE RAMBLER IS A TITANIUM FRAME LOCK FOLDER WITH A PREMIUM ELMAX STEEL BLADE

For the last 18 months I’ve been working on my first production folder. THE RAMBLER is titanium frame lock folder with a premium ELMAX steel blade. With attention to every detail, I’ve spend many months perfecting the design in CAD, testing prototypes, reviewing samples and talking to manufacturers and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the result.

The knife will be made in Maniago, Italy, where unquestionably the finest quality of knife production in Europe can be found. The production will be limited to 300 pieces, with each knife individually numbered. To make this happen I’ve set up a crowd funding campaign on Kickstarter. I’ve put my heart and soul into this project, and I’m counting on your support.

ELMAX, A PREMIUM STEEL

Elmax steel, made by Uddeholm in Sweden, is renowned for its exceptional properties in knife-making. It offers high wear and corrosion resistance, superior edge retention, and a perfect balance of hardness and toughness, making it less prone to chipping. Despite its durability, Elmax steel is relatively easy to sharpen, ensuring a fine edge can be maintained with minimal effort. These qualities make it an ideal choice for high-performance knives, suitable for both everyday use and demanding professional tasks.

FEATURES

In order to minimise parts and make the knife as strong as possible and easy to disassemble, the RAMBLER’s frame lock design is made out of 4mm grade 5 6AL-4V titanium. The inside of the scales are kept flat for easy cleaning. Different from most frame locks the cut out for the lock spring is kept wide, as a result nothing gets stuck between and cleaning is easier. If you’ve ever tried to clean a folding knife you know what I’m talking about, a point is often overlooked when designing a knife.

A hardened steel insert has been added to the lock spring to avoid wear and lock stick. The ball bearing design allows the knife to flip open smoothly with one hand. The guard doubles as the flipping tab.

An essential safety feature is the guard, which also serves as the flipper tab. This is certainly indispensable for any task beyond simple tasks like peeling an apple, as it prevents your hands from slipping onto the blade and causing serious injury. The guard is checkered as well as chamfered for added comfort and to ensure a secure grip.

A precision-milled titanium clip ensures the knife can be carried comfortably without bulging in your pocket.

UNIQUE BLADE SHAPE

Another key point is the truly unique yet highly functional blade shape that appeals to a wide range of users—hunters, woodcarvers, adventurers, overlanders, and even foodies on the trail. Furthermore, its continuous curve ensures that the point of contact always has the greatest force, delivering superior cutting performance compared to straight blades, which divide the force over a longer length and are less effective.

This blade shape is in fact based on my “HUBERT” fixed-blade hunting knife. After years of refining and testing, the blade shape has proven its worth for all kinds of tasks. Specifically, the narrow, pointed blade allows for detailed cutting and carving, similar to a scalpel, making it perfect for intricate work in smaller areas. Additionally, it’s excellent for tackling Amazon boxes without mercy.

Born from a hunting heritage, this knife is ideal for skinning game, deboning, and cleaning fish. Moreover, it excels in the kitchen, making food preparation a breeze. The slight downward curve at the point is a small but significant detail, specifically designed to prevent cutting into the insides of whatever you’re working on.

So, whether you’re out in the wild or whipping up a meal, this knife has got you covered. The versatility of the Rambler is undoubtedly its strong point.

ERGONOMICS

The design ergonomics allow you the hold the knife in 4 different ways, therefore adding functionality.

HISTORY ENGRAVED

The RAMBLER frame lock folder handle features a stunning engraving. Specifically, it showcases a prehistoric depiction of a hunter-gatherer discovered in the last century.

The figure, holding a spear, is a powerful symbol. Moreover, this engraving serves as a timeless reminder that the knife is humanity’s oldest tool, remaining as indispensable today as it was thousands of years ago.
