Sub-zero heat treatment
0 Comments
Sub-zero treatment of steels is a relatively new process that is gaining acceptance and is becoming increasingly popular. Cryo treatment in liquid Nitrogen of higher-alloy and carburized steels is an additional step in the heat treatment hardening process. It completes the metallurgical phase transformation of austenite into martensite during the hardening & creates conditions for the subsequent nucleation of very fine carbides in higher alloy steels.
Research shows that sub-zero processing of steels can improve various properties including:
- Hardness and strength
- Wear resistance
- Dimensional stability
